Is medical cannabis legal in Switzerland?
Yes. Since October 2022, medical cannabis can be prescribed in Switzerland by any doctor, without a special authorisation from the FOPH.
Do I need a special authorisation?
No. The former special authorisation is no longer required. The prescription is issued via a narcotics prescription by your doctor.
For which conditions is it an option?
Among others for chronic and neuropathic pain, spasticity, nausea and further indications. Whether a therapy is suitable is decided solely by your doctor.
How do I get a prescription?
Make an appointment with a doctor. If suitable, the prescription is issued and sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
Does health insurance cover the cost?
Only in exceptional cases and after a prior cost-coverage guarantee. Clarify this before starting therapy with the insurer and the medical practice.
Can I get a prescription online?
Several providers offer a medically supervised online consultation Switzerland-wide. They are marked as online offers in the directory.
May I drive with medical cannabis?
Even with a medical prescription, fitness to drive may be impaired and legal risks remain. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.
